Abstract

The large area covered by the VIRMOS U survey give us the possibility of studying the morphology of the local galaxy population, observed at the ultraviolet optical wavelengths.
We aim at giving an estimate of the fraction of irregular galaxies in the local Universe and compare it with the fraction of irregular galaxies at redshift z ~ 1.0. We also wish to quantify the effects of the morphological K-correction on galaxy morphology, from the comparison based on the concentration-asymmetry classification (from Abraham et al. 1996) applied to the ultraviolet and near infrared images of the VIRMOS survey.
